What to do when somebody dies
The first steps to be taken when someone dies are often the hardest.
At A.W. Lymn The Family Funeral Service we have experienced staff on call at all times of the day and night to help you when you need us most.
We will:
- Answer the telephone personally.
- Attend to moving a deceased person from the place at which they have died.
- Visit families/ welcome families to their most convenient A.W. Lymn funeral home to make funeral arrangements.
There are key things you must do in the first few days after someone dies. Our advice is always to contact your funeral director first.
Immediate actions A.W. Lymn will support you with:
- Arrange the funeral, where a funeral director is on hand to help.
- Obtain a medical certificate from a GP or hospital doctor. You’ll need this to register the death.
- Register the death within five days. You’ll then get the documents you need for the funeral.
- You can usually use the Tell Us Once service to report a death to most government organisations in one go.
- A.W. Lymn will contact The Bereavement Register and Life Leger on your behalf
- You do not need to deal with the will, money and property straight away.
